On Linux, this release had a missing shader in the set of common shaders, causing the DSO of these shaders to not load. Please use KtoA 1.1.3.1 instead.

Enhancements

  • Updated to Arnold 4.2.16.2: KtoA is now updated to and requires Arnold 4.2.16.2; it bring a handful of bug fixes, including a critical fix for implicits enabling the new volume_particle plugin.  See the release notes for more information.

  • XGen procedural support: Using the ArnoldXGen node, xgen data can be directly rendered within Katana. It requires knowing where Maya and MtoA are installed either via environment variables MAYA_PATH and MTOA_PATH or by setting custom paths for them on the node. It also requires the location of the Maya project containing xgen data or a direct path to an xgen file. The scene, description, collection, and patches to use can be customized from there if desired. It will each generate a separate renderer procedural location in the Katana scenegraph for each final patch found. (#134)

  • Particles volume/implicit plugin: A new volume plugin has been added which is designed to turn particles into either a volume, or into a metaball-like implicit surface. In the ArnoldObjectSettings node set the point mode to one of volume or implicit to use the new functionality. There are several more point-related settings that affect the falloff in both modes, and a samples setting for the implicit mode affecting render quality. (#137)

Incompatible Changes

  • Output type defaults to raw: When the output type in RenderOutputDefine is set to color (the default), Katana performs some post-processing on the output images that will override EXR settings such as compression, tiling, etc from the ArnoldOutputChannelDefine. This is confusing because the settings must be duplicated in the conversion attributes, and not all settings can be reproduced anyway. KtoA now defaults the output type to raw so that its settings can be preserved in the output EXRs. If the conversion settings were relied on before, the output type must explicitly be set back to color to regain the the conversion operation. (#136)
