Arnold's native scene definition format is stored in files with the .ass extension. SItoA lets you save scenes to .ass files that can later be rendered outside Softimage with kick (a multi-platform, command-line utility) or used as stand-ins.

Output Path

The output path for the exported .files. You can use environment variables or Softimage tokens like [Project Path].

Resolved Path

Shows the resolved output path, after variable/token expansion.

gzip Compression (.ass.gz) 

Exports the scene directly to gzip-compressed files with the .ass.gz extension. You can expect compression rates in the 4-5x range.

Binary-encoded ASS Files

Specify whether binary encoding is used to compress large data arrays into a more compact ASCII representation, leading to smaller files and faster load times, while still being mostly human-readable. In addition, the binary encoding has exact 32-bit precision, whereas without this binary output floating point values are truncated into at most 8 ASCII digits (e.g. 1234.5678). The encoded arrays are indicated by prefixing the array type with "b64" as in the example below:

Enable/disable use of absolute texture paths.

Absolute Procedural Paths

Enable/disable use of absolute procedural paths.

Translate Paths

Perform appropriate file path translation when exporting to .ass files intended to be rendered on a different operating system. (see Cross-platform Path Translation in the SItoA Paths topic for more information).

Expand Procedurals

If there are stand-ins, their content is expanded in the written file.

Node Types   

Allows you to filter the export nodes by type:  Options, Drivers/Filters, Geometry, Cameras, Lights, Shaders

Export Frame

Exports to file the current timeline frame, according to the previous settings.

Export Animation

Exports to file the whole animation (one file per frame), according to the previous settings.

When exporting a scene to .ass, SItoA will also add 2 extra fields as part of the options node: the current frame and the fps rate, both as constant floating point user data.

If you edit an exported .ass, they will show as
